Scrappy's Bergamot 10 Yr Anniversary Bitters

Scrappy's Bitters was started in Seattle in 2008 by bartender Miles "Scrappy" Thomas, who, with only Angostura and Peychaud's on the market, rented a commissary kitchen under an Italian restaurant and made his own until neighborhood bartenders started placing orders. It was the first craft bitters company in North America, and everything is still handmade in small batches in Seattle from organic ingredients, with no artificial flavors, chemicals, or dyes. To mark ten years of production in 2018, Thomas made a special limited batch of orange bitters built on bergamot, the fragrant citrus best known for flavoring Earl Grey tea, and bottled it at 43.6% ABV (87.2 proof) in a 5 oz (148 ml) dasher bottle. It is a one-off, and the label carries a recipe for a cocktail called The Decade written for the release. Bergamot gives the bitters a floral, perfumed orange character that is richer and rounder than a standard orange bitters, and it drops into the same places: a Martini or Martinez, a whiskey Old Fashioned, or a few dashes in sparkling wine.
